OPERATION UNDERGARMENT
Thanks to
Chief Warrant Officer Bruce and
C.J. Farnham who came to speak to us at January's District Roundtable. Their organization, Operation Undergarment, is a grassroots clothing drive to provide injured and sick soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen who are deployed in combat zones with clothing items to make their hospital stays more comfortable. To date, they have collected, shipped and distributed more than 100,000 items of clothing to those members of the U.S. military in need.
You can find more information, including what you can do to help at their website,

LEFTOVERS ETC.
Leftovers is a great resource for Scouts, leaders and teachers -- and they are in need of your help. Due to budget cuts, they could use volunteers help at the store. They would also like help to set up workshops for packs and troops at the store. Below is a flyer from Leftovers and their website address for more information.

BACKWOODS CAMPING STORE
The new Backwoods Camping Store is located in Lake St. Louis at the Meadows Shopping Plaza. They offer clinics in the store for Scout troops that can be tailored to the needs of each troop. Clinic examples include choosing and correctly fitting a backpack, backpacking stoves, water filters, sleeping bags, tents, choosing the correct boot and sock combo. They can also fire up some stoves for freeze-dried food-tasting. These clinics are always a lot of fun and informative for Scouts. Backwoods also offers a discount of 15 percent on assorted camping gear to all Scouts. Click below for flyer describing that gear:

FIRST MISSOURI STATE CAPITOL HISTORIC SITE
Projects available, but not limited to, are constructing a small covered outdoor education area, replanting several plant beds with native plantings, building and installing benches, constructing old historic-looking picnic type tables, building brochure boxes for mounting outside on grounds structures, re-plant herb garden, design and construct cubbies/shelves/cabinets and work tables for new education center for children's hands-on area and a project for a really adventuresome young man to construct an old fashioned-looking buckboard-type wagon for display or use in special events such as parades. The site will provide materials for projects unless part of the Scout's service project calls for donation of materials. The organization is familiar with the long history between the parks and the many Scouts who have volunteered their hard work and efforts to benefit Missouri citizens. They look forward to working with community service-minded Scouts interested in history or working on one of the above projects. They are open to any other ideas or suggestions.
