SCHOOL NIGHT TO JOIN SCOUTING
Congrats to all the units for all thier hard work and dedication to the School Night activities. We had a 23 percent increase over the recruiting last year. Some units have some follow-up to do from their School Nights. If you need materials, let TJ know.
POPCORN

Wow – What a great popcorn sale this year! We are still receiving some orders on extra products, but as a district we exceeded 60 percent more in total sales than in 2008. We also want to thank Popcorn Colonel Stan Gooch for the great job this year and also all the volunteers who help sort the popcorn in Harrisburg and Herrin locations.
Just a note... If your Scouts have a full sheet and have not received their Marshmallow Blaster, you will need to get the sheets to the Herrin office very soon since supplies are short.
Also, your money for the ordered popcorn is due in the Herrin office by Dec. 2, 2009. Thanks again for a great sale.

DISTRICT E-MAIL LIST
In an effort for better communication, we would like to start a district Cub Scout and Boy Scout e-mail list. This e-mail list will be used to remind you of upcoming events, deadlines, etc. The list will not be sold or shared with anyone outside the council.
To be added to the list, please include your unit info and e-mail to T.J. Foley.

RECHARTERING
It will not be long now!
Rechartering time will soon be upon us. There has been a change in the fee for registration. As of the next rechartering season, the fee has increased to $15 a year but Boy's Life remains $12. Here's a suggestion: During "School Night" recruitment, go ahead and collect the rechartering fee along with the pro-rated fee for the remainder of this year. If you have any questions, contact T.J.

STARTING A NEW SCOUTING UNIT
It is the desire of the Boy Scouts of America to make Scouting available to every boy, and in the case of Venturing to every boy and girl ages 14 to 20. If you belong to a community organization or a faith-based organization and would like information about starting a unit, please contact Osage District Director T.J. Foley about the process of establishing a new unit.
The Family of Scouting
- Do you know that Scouting is available for boys from first grade through age 20? Scouting, in the Venturing program is even available for girls.
- Cub Scouting is available for boys in first through fifth grades.
- Boy Scouting is available for boys in sixth through 12th grades, until the age of 18.
- Venturing is available for BOTH boys and girls ages 14 to 20.
If you are interested in looking into how to integrate the full family of Scouting into your organization, feel free to contact DistrictDirector T.J. Foley for more information.

NEW SQUARE KNOT FOR VOLUNTEER UNIT ORGANIZERS
The new William D. Boyce New-Unit Award recognizes volunteers who organize one or more new traditional units. To qualify, seek approval from the district to serve as the organizer to complete the successful organization of one new traditional unit (pack, troop, crew). Information about this new recognition is available at Roundtable! Click here or on the button above for more information.
