SUMMER CAMPS
Summer camp should be one of the highlights of a unit's activities.
The Greater St. Louis Area Council conducts a variety of programs for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers. Summer camp programs are held at Camp Lewallen, Pine Ridge Scout Camp, Camp May and Nagel Base at Beaumont Scout Reservation and Swift Base, Camps Sakima, Gamble and Famous Eagle (two of these three camps are open each summer) at S bar F Scout Ranch.
As of April 5, 2007, there are still 10 units who have not signed up for 2007 Webelos Mini-Camp who went in 2006. Also, there are 14 units who have not signed up for 2007 Webelos week-long who went in 2006. On the Boy Scout side, we have 11 units who have not signed up for 2007 who went in 2006.
Please get your reservations into council office ASAP. We want all of our youth to have a chance to go to camp. Make it happen for them!!
MAKING RESERVATIONS FOR SUMMER CAMP
For each of the summer camping programs offered by the council, a reservation must be made with the Camping Department. A sign-up lottery for the Cub Scout programs is held in early December with sign-ups available afterwards, as space permits. Annually, we have held a sign-up lottery for the Boy Scout camp in October to assign weeks and campsites with open sign-up available thereafter. The Boy Scout summer camp lottery is held on or around Oct. 15 each year. Venture crews from the council can sign up for the Swift Base between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. After Jan. 1, Venture crews from outside the council or older Scouts from the council may sign up for Swift Base. Contact the Camping Department for additional information.
WHERE TO GO CAMPING
If you are looking for places to camp in and around the St. Louis area, check out Where to Go Camping. This is a booklet created by the Greater St. Louis Area Council that provides invaluable information on camping opportunities in this council as well as those in the region. The booklet can be downloaded in either Word or in a PDF format.
Have fun this year. Make it a special time for the youth. Remember that they are only young for a short period of their lifes. Help them build memories that will last a lifetime.
