UNIT COMMISSIONER BASIC TRAINING
It is recommended that within two months of becoming a commissioner, a new commissioner must have basic training. To help all unit commissioners comply with this mandate, the Greater St. Louis Area Council offers the following Unit Commissioner Basic Training courses under the direction of Roger Engelbart, assistant council commissioner for training. Please make plans to attend.

2009 COMMISSIONER CONFERENCE
A dynamic quality of today’s society is the need for learning as a lifetime activity. Therefore, commissioners should view learning as an important part of their entire Scouting lives. For all commissioners, training is a continuing process -- every month, every year.
The 2009 Commissioner Conference will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Fox High School. This is an opportunity to meet your fellow commissioners, and learn or review commissioner skills. The course descriptions are listed below. Registration will be coming out soon. Please make plans to attend this conference.
2009 COMMISSIONER CONFERENCE
CC-1: UNIT COMMISSIONER BASIC TRAINING
A must for all new Commissioners. Learn the responsibilities of a commissioner and how to accomplish those tasks.
CC-2: ADMINISTRATION OF COMMISSIONER SERVICE
This course is designed for assistant district commissioners and district commissioners and covers such topics as recruiting, coaching, matching unit commissioners to units, area management, team management and strategies for commissioner area service.
CC-3: DELIVERING THE PROGRAM -- ROLES THE COMMISSONER PLAYS
Are you delivering the program we promise at School Night to Join Scouting? This course will include a discussion of the role of the commissioner and take time to share your own experiences in delivering the Scouting program.
CC-4: COMMISSIONER SEVICE-BEING A TRAINED RESOURCE
Are you trained to help your units be successful? This course will discuss required and optional training programs needed for a commissioner to help its units succeed.
CC-5: RESOLVING UNIT CONFLICTS
Effective commissioner counseling methods help units when conflicts arise. Learn or review effective counseling methods used by commissioners to provide unit service.
CC-6 BEING A COMMISSIONER—WHAT MATTERS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER? What do units expect of expect of their Commissioner? A variation on the Customer Service model of Commissioner service.
CC-7 COMMISSIONER JEOPARDY—A question and answer course designed to share information and techniques used in Commissioner service.
CC-8 HOW TO REMOVE A VOLUNTEER—Sometimes we have to do the unthinkable of removing a volunteer. Sometimes they just don’t fit. Learn how to handle this difficult situation.
