AWARD OF MERIT RECIPIENTS
The following Scouters in our district were recently recognized with the District Award of Merit at the District Recognition Dinner:

Pam Doran. Pam has been active in Pack 12, Troop 11 and Crew 11.  She has served on our district committee as a member of the Boy Scout Leader Training Team and as our district dinner chairman.  She is also active as a unit commissioner. Pam is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has been to Wood Badge.  She has also earned the Scouters Key Award. Pam is active in her church as a member of the Outreach Committee among other things.

Tony Smee. Tony is currently the Cubmaster of Pack 20 in Cape Girardeau.  He has a long list of awards he has earned in Scouting both as a youth and as an adult.  He is an Eagle Scout and Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow.  He has served as district executive, camping chairman and district commissioner for the Shawnee District.  He has been very active as a member of the Wood Badge Advanced Leadership Training team.  Tony is also active in church and youth activities outside of Scouting.

Roger Buckner. Roger has been very active in Cub Scout Pack 220 in Scott City as a Webelos leader, Cubmaster and committee member since 1999.  He has also been active on the district level as a member of the Cub Scout Adventure Camp staff and with the district Cuboree as a BB gun instructor. Roger earned the Cubmaster Award in 2002.  He is also active as a Sunday School Teacher and also as a volunteer with the Scott City Youth League.

The Award of Merit is the highest award given in Scouting at the District level and these Scouters are all very deserving.

DISTRICT AWARDS
At the District Recognion Dinner, we also recognized several unit leaders in our district who have been singled out for providing outstanding service to the youth in our district.

POST ADVISOR OF THE YEAR: Emily Jones, Post 4077. Emily has been the post Advisor at Southeast Missouri Hospital for the past five years.  She is very enthusiastic and encouraging while helping many young people explore a career in the health field.

VENTURING ADVISOR OF THE YEAR: Chris Wessel, Crew 51. Chris has taken Crew 51 to Sea Base this past summer and two of their members have qualified for the Bronze Award.  Chris is a model for youth-led leadership and has done a great job providing youth in Chaffee an opportunity to take part in many high-adventure activities.

SCOUTMASTER OF THE YEAR: Jerry Siemers, Troop 8. Jerry revived this troop years ago and has worked very hard to build the troop to the level it is today.  Jerry has always put the troop first and has allowed his assistant leaders the opportunity to lead and learn.

ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER OF THE YEAR: Brian Sievers, Troop  311. Brian is one of those leaders who does the behind-the-scenes things that need to be done.  He has been the troop quartermaster for Troop 311 for seven years and is always willing to help out.

CUBMASTER OF THE YEAR: Freeman Fouts, Pack 15. Freeman has been the Cubmaster for Pack 15 for two years and was a Webelos leader for four years before that.  Freeman has brought a new-found energy level to the pack even though he has no children of his own.

TIGER CUB DEN LEADER OF THE YEAR: Jamie Laramore, Pack 20. Jamie is a new Tiger Cub leader and has done a great job leading his den.  He is great with the kids and is a very enthusiastic leader.

SCOUTER OF THE YEAR: Kevin Teegarden, Troop 311. Kevin is very active in Troop 311 as the transportation chairman for the troop (bus driver).  He also serves as the troop mechanic and helps with the computer work.  Kevin has also served the last 3 years as our district popcorn chairman.  He attends most troop campouts and is a very positive role model.

SPRING CAMPOREE
Please note that we have changed the date for the spring camporee.
This year's spring camporee will be held on May 2-4 at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.  This is a change from the original date that was announced of April 4-6.  The May date was our original choice because we felt we had a better chance of nice weather, but there was a conflict with the airport. The only date that would work was the April date.  The airport no longer has that conflict and after discussing it with unit leaders at Roundtable, we decided to move it to the May date.  Leaders guides will be available soon.

CUB SCOUT CAMP PROMOTION
Our goal this is to make sure that every Cub Scout in our district knows about the great camping opportunites available to them this summer.  Dad & Lad, Mom & Me and Parent & Pal are really fun weekends for Cub Scouts for boys finishing the second grade.  Webelos Mini-Camp and Webelos Camp are great camps for boys finishing third and fourth grades.  Roger Buckner is our Webelos Camp promotion chairman.  If you would like to schedule a time for Roger to make a presentation at a den or Pack meeting, please call him at 573-264-2776.

SPRING RECRUITING
We would like to see every troop and pack in the district host a spring recruiting event.  We stand ready to help you with fliers or any other materials you may need.  We also can help you with tips to help you have a successful event.  for more information or to schedule a date to have an event, please call Charlie Herbst at 334-3297.
