The University of Scouting will be held on January 23, 2010. It will be held at Fox High School in Arnold, MO
What kind of classes are offered?
Just about anything to do with Scouting! Just to give you a general idea of what University of Scouting has to offer, here are a just a few sessions you can attend:
Understanding Learning – How Do People Learn? –In order to be an effective Trainer, you must first understand how people learn! There are several different learning styles and this will help you identify which is the right style for the right person.
Unit Commissioner Basic Training – This is the first step as a new Unit Commissioner. Here you will learn the responsibilities of this position and how to accomplish those tasks.
Red Cross First Aid Training – This is a full day certification course! You never know when someone is in need! Here you will learn the basics of First Aid & CPR such as Rescue Breathing, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Broken Bones.
Character Development – Leaders will learn how Cub Scouting is designed to help develop good character and positive attitudes in our youth. This session will also discuss the 12 core values.
Add “Sizzle” to your Unit Program – If your Troop is bored with the same program year after year, this will help you spice it up with tips on how to incorporate new and exciting events and activities!
You don’t have to be the SPL to Lead – This is for Scouts and Leaders! Learn the basic principles of servant leadership with a toolbox of resources & skills that will help you lead!
BSA High Adventure – Philmont, Northern Tier, and others – Learn about these great programs, registration procedures, and preparation for participation. Also learn about other awesome High Adventure opportunities!
Venturing Leadership Skills Course – This all day course teaches Venturers leadership skills through hands-on activities, A/V presentations, and most importantly through peer instruction.
Special Needs Overview – Every unit has at least 1 Special Needs Scout. Special Needs can be a variety of different disabilities such as Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Aspergers Syndrome, Asthma, Diabetes, hearing or visual impairment, and many others. This will talk about the tools that are available to you when dealing with these issues.
Basic Computer Skills for Scouters – Electronic records and files are common forms of media. This is an entry level course that will go over basic computer hardware and software.

How much is it to attend?
Fee is $20 with the exception of the Red Cross Certification Course which will be an additional $30.00.
