STEM Boy Scout Summer Camp

Greater St. Louis Area Council, BSA
Camp May – Beaumont Scout Reservation
Sunday, July 27 - Saturday, August 2, 2014
Check In, Sunday at 1 p.m.

This week will be an extraordinary experience for Boy Scouts - last summer's camp was STEMtastic!   Over 30 STEM based merit badges will be offered. Scouts will work on one merit badge or NOVA badge each day and an opportunity to work on other badges in the evening. Afternoons and evenings will include other outrageous STEM program and exhibits to experience. If you want more in science, technology, engineering, and math, this is the week to be at. Order of the Arrow activities will not be offered.

A special t-shirt and patch will be given to participants by attending this week. After registering, participants will be sent the Program manual or you can download it in the Camping – Boy Scout section of the Council webpage – www.stlbsa.org The health form will also be sent via email.

FEES

This week is designed for older Scouts but any Boy Scout can attend and recommend that Scouts have had a prior weeklong camp experience. 210 spots.

$250 per week. A $10 savings applies if the full fee is paid by March 1 Camper Savings Day or $240.  Reservation fee is $25 per Scout and is not refundable after June 1. Unused reservation fees cannot be applied to any other camp expense and, if not used, will be forfeited.

Scouts can sign up individually and need to indicate if they need the Provisional Troop or if they will be attending with their Troop with adult leadership attending.

We encourage Troop leaders to attend even if there is only one that can do so from the Troop. We anticipate a large opportunity for several Provisional Troops and needing adult leaders to provide shared leadership. Each campsite will be capped at 30 Scouts. Campsite assignments will be sent out in advance. We would appreciate greatly any Troop leader willing to help.

Additional Fees

Leaders at Camp May are charged only an $85 fee to cover food costs. One leader is free with 3 to 10 Scouts attending this week. One additional leader is free for each additional 10 Scouts or fraction thereof.

Visiting leaders may also purchase individual meals at $5 per meal. Guest meals must be paid for at the Emerson Center (Camp May headquarters).

To Make Full Payments

Scouts who register for $25 to hold a spot will be sent a form via email to mail in/drop off to the Scout office their remaining balance by July 1. After July 1, if full payment is not made the spot held will be forfeited. The form will also require a signature from the Scout’s Scoutmaster to approve the Scout attending this week – only needed for Scouts needing Provisional Troop. So make sure that communication is taking place!

Leaders attending camp who do not meet the ‘free adult’ ratio are asked to submit their $85 fee by June 1.

Refunds

Refunds cannot be made at summer camp. All requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Camping Department within 30 days of the Individual’s/Troop’s departure from camp. The maximum refund per Scout is $150. Refunds are not available for those arriving in camp late or leaving early. No refunds are made after September 30, 2014.
