YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING -- MANDATORY FOR ALL REGISTERED ADULTS
Youth
safety is the number one concern of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even
greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the BSA
is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth
Protection policies. Effective June 1, 2010:
Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all registered volunteers.
New
leaders are required to take YPT before they submit their application
for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must
be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer
service with youth begins.
YPT
must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's YPT record is not
current at the time of recharter (December), he/she will not be
reregistered.
There
are three versions of YPT - (1) Cub/Boy Scout leaders, (2) Venturing
leaders, and (3) Exploring leaders. You must take the one corresponding
to your registration(s). If you are registered in multiple units, you
must take all that apply.
Youth Protection Training is available online at MyScouting.org.
CUB SCOUT BASIC LEADER TRAINING -- NOW MANDATORY FOR CUBMASTERS, ASST. CUBMASTERS & DEN LEADERS
What
does it take to be a "trained" Cub Scout leader and wear the "trained"
patch on your uniform? You need to complete two training courses: This
Is Scouting and
leader-specific training! You can take both at Cub Scout Basic Leader
Training.

BOY SCOUT BASIC LEADER TRAINING -- NOW MANDATORY FOR SCOUTMASTERS & ASST. SCOUTMASTERS
To
be a "trained" Boy Scout leader and wear the "trained" patch on your
uniform, you must complete This Is Scouting, leader-specific training (Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster) and Introduction to Outdoor Skills.

VENTURING BASIC LEADER TRAINING -- NOW MANDATORY FOR ADVISORS & ASST. ADVISORS PRIOR TO DECEMBER 2011

session is designed to introduce crew adult leaders to the basic
information needed to operate a challenging and quality program. Both
this course and This Is Scouting are required for a Venturing leader to be "trained" and wear the "trained" patch on his or her uniform
