ST. LOUIS—St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley will make the first donation to this year’s Scouting for Food campaign at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at his office in the St. Louis County Government Center.

Approximately 30,000 Scouts distributed more than one million bags on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, during the first weekend of the 27th annual food drive. Scouts will visit the County Executive’s office to pick up the first donations for this year. His donation will be the first of hundreds of thousands of bags that Scouts will collect on Saturday, Nov. 19, throughout the St. Louis region.

The drive provides a three-month supply of nutritious food for a network of more than 500 food pantries. Scouts collected more than 43 million canned goods and nonperishable items during the first 26 years of the drive.

For the eighth consecutive year, Sunset Transportation, Inc., will transport the food from fire stations—serving as collection sites—in the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.  Sunset Transportation will move 55 truckloads of food in cooperation with dozens of truck drivers who donate their time, use their own trucks, and pay for their own fuel.  Wells Fargo Advisors is this year’s campaign sponsor.
