Youth Protection Training For Scouts
The BSA uses a variety of tools, including videos, to communicate with young people about protecting
themselves against all forms of abuse. These are award-winning videos about child abuse prevention that help youths recognize dangerous situations and how to avoid becoming victims. These videos are available to rent for a $10.00 deposit through the Training department:
- The video, It Happened to Me, is designed for Cub Scouts (boys ages 6 to 10) to view with their parent or guardian. This 26-minute video presents five scenarios of high-risk situations that boys may encounter. It establishes safety rules that help the boys counteract the fear and shame that can result from abusive situations.
- A Time to Tell is a 29-minute video designed for Boy Scouts, boys ages 11 to 14. This video depicts the risks of sexual abuse by using dramatizations of adolescent experiences.
- A third video, Youth Protection: Personal Safety Awareness, is designed for any young person ages 14 to 20. It's 19 minutes and consists of vignettes dealing with the issues of acquaintance rape, Internet safety, stalking, and fraternization. Each scenario is followed by instructions for local group discussions and a teen panel discussion. It also provides pertinent advice regarding each situation.
If you would prefer to own these videos above, contact the Scout Shop at (314) 454-1652 to see if these are available for purchase.
