Friends of Scouting is the council’s second largest source of income representing 23 percent of our Council’s annual operating budget.
This year, recognitions are focused on the unit as a whole. Dollar goals goals have been established for each unit. Units who meet or exceed the dollar goal will be recognized with Bronze level free rank advancement for an entire year. This includes Tiger, Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos and Arrow of Light patches for the Cub Scout program. Boy Scout patches include Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life. The Eagle badge and presentation kit are provided to qualified candidates through other funding sources. Venturing program awards that qualify are the Gold, Bronze, Silver and Ranger awards. Those units that exceed their Bronze goal and meet their Silver goal will earn Bronze recognition and send 1 leader to summer camp for free or send 3 leaders to Pow Wow/University of Scouting for free. Those units that exceed their Silver level goal and meet their Gold goal will earn Bronze and Silver recognitions plus a $100 voucher for camping services.
Units who qualify will be issued a card to show the Scout Shop to verify their participation in the free rank advancement program. The card will be valid between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012. Advancement reports still need to be completed per normal practice.
Starting in March 2012 and running weekly though the campaign, the council will mail out free rank advancement cards to units who qualify.
Unit dollar goals were established by the following:
- 15 percent of the unit’s June 30 membership is multiplied by $148, the cost to support one Scout for a year. (See example No. 1 below.)
- If the above number, when figured, is lower than the previous year’s amount raised, the previous year’s amount raised plus 10 percent will be the goal. (See example No. 2 below.)

In 2012, the Council will invest $148 to support each Scout for a year in the program. Donations can be made by cash, check or credit card. Monthly and quarterly billing options are also available. Just $37 a quarter will support one Scout in the program for an entire year. What ever you give, your gift will be appreciated.
If you have any further questions regarding this recognition program please contact your district executive or Marc Tenholder, Development Director, at 314-361-0600 or 800-392-0895.
