Units who earned the Beacon Award in 2009 are listed below in alphabetical order according to district, with pictures shown in random order. The council's public relations department will select photos for publication on the website and/or in the Duffle Bag from those submitted with the Beacon Award Application

Boone Trails District
  • Pack 30 -- aided in the logistics of running events for the Anna House (in St. Louis), a retirement home for Roman Catholic nuns
  • Pack 355 -- provided uniformed color guard for St. Peters Church’s 9 a.m. mass
  • Pack 391 -- highlighted in The Elsberry Democrat for activities throughout the past year
  • Pack 854 -- participated in the annual Operation Clean Stream
  • Pack 911 -- conducted flag ceremony at all services on Scout Sunday in addition to having a display in church lobby all morning
  • Pack 918 -- received highest award in local Cub Scouting, the Outstanding Chaplains Award, at the Cathedral Basilica Saint Louis presented by His Excellency, Bishop Robert J. Herman
  • Pack 918 -- recognized in St. Louis Post-Dispatch for receiving the Outstanding Chaplains Award
  • Pack 977 -- conducted outdoor flag-raising ceremony on Veteran’s Day at Rock Creek Elementary
  • Troop 911 -- conducted a flag ceremony at all services on Scout Sunday in addition to having a display in church lobby all morning
  • Troop 968 -- visited the board of aldermen meeting
  • Pack 43 -- participated in Sikeston’s Cotton Carnival Parade; float won 2nd place
  • Troop 76 -- developed, marketed and sold T-shirts as fundraiser celebrating teamwork of Malden, Mo., community during winter storm 2009
  • Troop 272 -- cleaned up Crowley’s Ridge State Park at Walcott, Ark., as a way to give back to the community and surrounding areas


  • Troop 28 -- replaced American flag at Benton Civic Center

Gravois Trail

  • Pack 25 -- donated 65 stuffed stockings to Truman's Adopt a Family program
  • Pack 661 -- donated items to deployed military personnel; wrote letters and drew pictures to send with donated items
  • Pack 821 -- participated in Pinewood Derby, as noted in South County Times
  • Troop 165 -- participated in the Memorial Day Good Turn at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery, as noted in the South County Times
  • Troop 331 -- volunteered to staff six game booths at a Halloween hayride and fun night sponsored by city of Sunset Hills; booths and games constructed as Eagle Scout projects
  • Pack 41 -- planted trees on courthouse lawn in honor of Red Ribbon Week activities throughout the Vienna community
  • Pack 251 -- raised flag and recited Pledge of Allegiance at Unity Point School
  • Troop 4 -- conducted Christmas toy drive for 200 Southern Illinois needy Hispanic migrant children who remained in the area
New Horizons
  • Crew 361 -- produced insert for church bulletin distributed on Scout Sunday
  • Pack 361 -- produced insert for church bulletin distributed on Scout Sunday
  • Pack 604 -- adopted friends at the Oak Forest Skilled Care Center; participated in Halloween party and made holiday cards for residents and purchased gifts for those residents who did not have family members
  • Pack 922 -- had a pinewood derby car float in the Eureka Days Parade and was awarded second place trophy in the youth organization division
  • Troop 352 -- served as color guard at U.S. Short Track Speed Skating event in Chesterfield
  • Troop 361 -- produced insert for church bulletin distributed on Scout Sunday
  • Troop 782 -- spent a Saturday assembling kits containing materials for Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual Shamrock campaign
North Star
  • Pack 882 -- passed out bags of food into truck while participating in Scouting for Food Drive in November, as noted in North County Journal
  • Troop 942 -- participated in a Christmas service project making cards and scarves for residents at St. Sophia Nursing Home
  • Pack 444 -- participated in annual Scouting for Food drive, collecting 2,178 cans of food
  • Pack 452 -- participated in church services at their charter organization, First Presbyterian Church of Washington
Ozark Trailblazers
  • Pack 417 -- provided uniformed color guard for the "Fall Rocks" program at the Missouri Mines State Historic Site
  • Pack 468 -- performed flag opening at Ste. Genevieve High School Basketball game
  • Pack 563 -- advertised School Night for Scouting at Desloge Auto Wash
  • Troop 483 -- provided color guard at 2008 Relay for Life at Mineral Area College
  • Troop 11 -- helped carry food for children and elderly at annual Thanksgiving Dinner; also cleaned up area and stacked tables and chairs
  • Troop 769 -- performed flag ceremony at Bikers for Babies at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
River Trails
  • Pack 416 -- Webelos, as part of their citizenship belt loop, volunteered time and efforts to Lafayette Industries in Manchester; spread approximately 2 tons of landscaping rock for Lafayette’s picnic/outdoor lunch area over approximately 1,000 sq. ft.
  • Pack 430 -- participated in Arnold Day Parade in October, and sang Christmas carols at the Woodland Nursing Home
  • Pack 547 -- led I-55 Raceway in Pevely in Pledge of Allegiance before races
  • Troop 535 -- performed flag-retirement ceremony for the Corps of Engineers
  • Pack 16 -- helped with River City Heritage Music Festival held in downtown Cape Girardeau; also handled cleanup
  • Troop 224 -- assisted local VFW post with Memorial Day ceremony, and helped place flags on veterans’ graves at local cemeteries
  • Pack 78 -- visited interesting places and held membership drive/swimming and pizza party, as featured in The Berni Banner
  • Pack 62 -- conducted clean-up of Tilles Park on Hampton Ave. in preparation for the Tilles Park Neighborhood Association’s Easter egg hunt
  • Troop 115 -- hosted flag collection site at St. Mary Magdalene Parish
